The North Carolina Building Code Council voted on December 14, 2010 to increase energy efficiency standards in new homes and buildings, which will save consumers an average of $30 to $100 each month, create jobs across our state, and help home builders who have struggled during these hard times.  The new code calls for an increase in the amount of Insulation a home should have, as well as energy efficient windows, and numerous other money & energy saving upgrades.

This energy standard overhaul calls for an improvement in energy efficiencies by 30 percent in commercial construction 15 percent in Residential Construction.  These new codes will take effect in January 2012 and will become mandatory in March 2012.  In addition to the mandatory 15 percent increase on residential construction efficiency the council created a voluntary path that will give special recognition to those builders who choose to build new homes to the higher 30 percent efficiency standard or above.  The approval of these new energy efficiency codes create a historical mark for North Carolina as we push toward green building methods , and improved energy savings for NC residents and business owners.

Governor Beverly Perdue has also pledged to work with the industry to improve training for real estate appraisers and the methods they use in appraising energy efficient homes, which will better reflect the monthly utility bill savings a homeowner will see.  More accurate appraisals for energy improvements means, the enhancements you make to your home and benefit from Today will also give you a leg up on the competition when it comes time to sell.

If the NC Building Code Council is calling for improved energy efficiencies in New Homes, why not bring your Existing Home up to their new standards today.  The techniques, and cost savings are all proven so why not take advantage of them now.

Call us today, and ask how we can reduce your homes energy footprint, lower your utility bills, and increase your homes’ value!
